TIFF Rising Stars 2012

Developing emerging Canadian cinema talent is one of the many activities that allows the #Toronto  International Film Festival (@TIFF_Net) to give back to the film industry. Joining with the charitable foundation of the late Brian Linehan and the Canadian Film Centre, the partners choose 4 Rising Stars to particpate in an intensive series of events, meetings and professional development. This year actors Charlie Carrick, Connor Jessup, Tatiana Maslany and Charlotte Sullivan were chosen as the Rising Stars during the second annual programme.

2012 Rising Star jury members included filmmakers Clement Vigo and Michael McGowan; casting director Deirdre Bowen; Executive in Charge of Music & Acting Talent at the CFC, Larissa Giroux; along with Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of TIFF.

This year's actors already come with some outstanding credentials and awards: Charlie Carrick has been on stage, television and in the movies appearing in V and Flashpoint among many other credits. Connor Jessup starred in a Steven Spielberg movie and also produces, writes and directs. Tatiana Maslany who has acted with Ray Liotta, Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. To round out the quartet of Rising Stars is Charlotte Sullivan, a local actress from Toronto who played Marilyn Monroe in the Kennedys and acted with Kathy Bates, Peter O'Toole and Woody Harrelson, and is currently in the cast of Rookie Blue.

The 2011 winners were Sarah Allen, Katie Boland, Sarah Gadon and Keon Mohajeri and all have been very busy since being the first of the Rising Stars.

Toronto will welcome the 37th Film Festival beginning on September 6 and running to September 16, 2012. The red carpets and lineups will soon be starting. Don't forget to check out the fun that always happens at David Peacut Square.
