CP Holiday Train 2019

Special trains are moving through Canada and into the United States of America bringing holiday cheer for good little boys and girls. For the 2019 Christmas season the trains run from November 25 to December 18. The US train goes through the western GTA and to Windsor, while the Canadian train is the one that comes into Toronto on Thursday, November 28 from 8:15pm to - 9:00pm stopping at the CP Lambton Yard office on Runneymede Road.

The US train stopped in Milton, Ontario on 4:45pm - 5:30pm November 28 before heading to Hamilton and beyond. In Milton the location was the Glen Eden Ski & Snowboard Centre off Kelso Road and the headline entertainers was Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Band.

From the Holiday Train website: "A typical Holiday Train event goes something like this: the train arrives and pulls to a safe stop in front of the crowd. The stage door lowers and the band opens with its first song. After that, a brief presentation takes place with local food bank officials and other dignitaries. Once complete, the band resumes performing a mix of traditional and modern holiday-themed songs. The whole event lasts about 30 minutes. Once the band plays its farewell song, the stage door closes, and the train heads off to the next stop." "

FAO Schwarz popup in Toronto

The toy store many know from the movie BIG with Tom Hanks is making an appearance back in Hudson's Bay and they brought a big piano you have to dance on to play. The FAO Schwarz popup is on the main floor of the downtown department store, surrounded by a representation of a piano keyboard.

Along with the toys you can find Santa himself seated on a fine red chair ready to meet children and listen to their gift requests. You can wander the area looking at plush animals and toy train sets.

“At Hudson’s Bay we are always looking for ways to offer our customers new, exciting and exclusive opportunities and experiences”, says Alison Coville, President, Hudson’s Bay. “There is something special and nostalgic about shopping for a perfect toy to bring joy to someone you love. We are thrilled to launch the FAO Schwarz brand in Canada and bring that sense of magic and wonder to our customers”.
Santa Claus is in the house
Hudson's Bay began to sell toys again starting in the fall of 2016 and in 2018 they teamed with the world-famous FAO Schwarz, described to bring the popup into Canada for the first time. Honda Indy Toronto 2020 tickets on sale

What a year in IndyCar! Josef Newgarden took the 2019 Championship title, then the NTT IndyCar Series was sold to Roger Penske (who's got the Penske file?) who also took over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and on a sad note Canadian driver and fan favourite James Hinchcliffe was dropped by his team after a merger. It will be tough for him to get an IndyCar ride in time for the 2020 series but he is a fighter, so hopefully local fans can look forward to getting him back onto the Streets of Toronto.
Speaking of the Honda Indy Toronto, the public sale of  multi-day tickets for the 2020 race began November 20 - remaining at the 2019 price, for the upcoming July 10-12, 2020 race weekend in Exhibition Place. The first day of the three day weekend racefest is free, courtesy of the Ontario Honda Dealers Association. Then two-day Grandstand seating starts at $85 (Bronze), $130 (Silver) and $185 (Gold) while a 2-day General Admission ticket (without a grandstand seat) is $55.  The 2.89km, 11-turn temporary street circuit starts in front of the Enercare Centre and heads out onto Lake Shore Boulevard before coming back into Exhibition Place. Single day tickets will go on sale at a later date.

“The Honda Indy Toronto is an awesome summer festival that we proudly host in our world-class city,” said Honda Indy Toronto President, Jeff Atkinson. “We are so proud of how this event has grown over the last few years and filled the festival grounds and grandstands. Also, Honda Fan Friday continues to make a positive impact on the community. Thanks to the Ontario Honda Dealers Association and our fans’ generous support, over $120,000 was raised for Make-A-Wish Canada in 2019 with Honda Canada Foundation’s matching contribution,” Atkinson explained. Over $820,000 has been raised in 10 years for Make-A-Wish® Canada."

You can also purchase tickets for the following.

Champions Club (includes Paddock Pass, pre-race grid walk, access credential, signing the start line and more)
NTT IndyCar Series Paddock Pass (located in the Enercare Centre)
Pit Pass
Toronto Rookies Racers Membership Kit
Entrance to the race gets you access to off track fun experiences like Thunder Alley, the Honda Speedzone, venders, food trucks, entertainment, activities and interactive displays.
Toronto Rookie Racers
Stadium Super Trucks

On track features several race series including the return of the Stadium Super Trucks! Those high flying trucks take jumps at speeds which launches them to unbelievable heights and distances. You have to see them to believe it. New for 2020 will be the Lamborghini Super Trofeo international racing series with their Huracan Super Trofeo Evo cars. Also returning will be the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires series as well as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama. The weekends headliner race will be the NTT IndyCar Series and will take place Sunday. It looks like the powerful stockcars from the NASCAR Pinty's Series are also included in next years' event.

Hudson's Bay Holiday Windows and Christmas Market 2019

Toronto's iconic Hudson's Bay introduced a new set of Holiday Windows for the 2019 Christmas season. The Queen Street West windows were unveiled on November 14 by Mayor John Tory and the musical group The Reklaws. Saks Fifth Avenue had some really nice windows along Yonge Street last year but dropped the ball this year.

Five new Christmas displays replaced the old animatronic scenes of Santa and his workshop that returned year after year until 2017. Now the store bring out new displays every year and the fresh looks delight the visitors who drop by just to see the new Holiday Windows. This year the windows show an increased used of technology in toy production for "Santa's Secret Workshop".

“Year after year, Hudson’s Bay brings Torontonians and visitors from around the world together to delight in the magic of the holiday season,” said Denis Frenette, SVP, Merchandise Presentation, Hudson’s Bay. “This year’s windows were inspired by our vision of Santa’s Secret Workshop and feature the animated characters we’ve become known for. The joy of discovery and wonder continues inside our Queen Street store with a new FAO pop up shop and luxe gift shop. From outside to in, it’s a full experience that’s sure to delight.”
The five new windows are the 1) Candy Cane Department, 2) Gifting Department, 3) Ornament-Making Department, 4) Mail Room Department and 5) the Snow-Making Department.

Hudson's Bay Christmas Market
Meanwhile on the 6th floor of the department store you can find their Christmas Market. Rows of various types of toy soldiers stand guard on the shelves near the centre of the store and other holiday decorations are fun to see and take home.
