Toronto Fan Expo 2018

Bringing together fan culture in Canada for 24 years, the annual exposition is for lovers of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, gaming and of course cosplay. It started as a simple comic book convention and now is a mega, 4-day event that brings some of the top stars of the various genres to meet fans up close for autographs and photo opportunities.

You can find plenty of artists and vendors out on the expo floor with over 750,000 square feet in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre - they use both the north and south buildings, and still it is not enough room when you are wandering the aisles winding through the crowds packed into the centre. The show runs from August 30 to September 2, 2018 (Fan Expo Hours - Thurs: 4:00PM-9:00PM, Fri: 10:00AM-7:00PM, Sat: 10:00AM-7:00PM, Sun: 10:00AM-5:00PM).

Ticket prices at the door run from $25 for Thursday, up to the maximum price of $60 on Saturday.

Fanexpo #comicon 2017

The caped crusader and many other superheroes are back at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre until Sunday, September 3. Saturday had the Annual Cosplay Masquerade while Sunday at 2pm is the Anime Costume Contest and Cosplay guests included Jessica Nigri, LeeannaVamp, Holly Wolf, Missy Mayhem and Karli Woods. Some of the attractions include celebrity photo and autograph sessions, panels and Q & As, artist alley, sketch duels, speed dating and 400,000 Sq feet of comics, accessories, artwork and toys. Celebrities like Tim Curry, Norman Reeds, Richard Dryfuss are just some of the many stars you can meet at FanExpo. Prepare to pay big bucks for photo ops as Norman Reedus is priced at $125, Tim Curry at $120 and Nathon Fillion at $105. Team photo ops are even more expensive - the Rocky Horror Cast including Bostwick, Campbell, Quinn and Meat Loaf go for $185. The celebrity autograph area as well as Cosplay Corner and Horror HQ were in the North Building.

A mix of sci-fi, comics, anime, fantasy, gaming and the costumes make up the popular show which squeezes big bucks from young fans. Entry starts at $30 on Thursday and peaks at $65 on Saturday. During the weekend the show opens at 10am and closes at 7pm Saturday and 5pm on Sunday. On Monday the Sith rest.

FanExpo 2015

Bring your costumes and a bankroll because Toronto's own Comicon costs a bionic arm and a leg. Buy your tickets ahead of time because otherwise you have to south towards the lake, circle down what I believe is a missile silo, wait in line to purchase your ticket, then squeeze into the south building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

OMG the crowds and the ticket prices are out of the world - Saturday was $60, Sunday was $45. Wind through the aisles in the south, then head over to the north building for the celebrity signing areas. Cosplay wasn't all that popular as only a small percentage of the people attending the show dress up as their favourite anime, sci-fi, television, video game, comic book or cartoon characters. For cosplay I find that Anime North blows all the other shows away.

It would be nice if their was more room in the aisles so people could stop and check out the booths without blocking the flow of traffic. Maybe they figure if they hit people in the pocketbook more and more then many will stop coming and the crowd will be more manageable.

Fan Expo returns

Cosplay and celebrities bring out fans by the thousands in #Toronto from August 28 to 31, 2014. The cavernous halls of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre become tightly packed with visitors making the days feel like a continuous rush hour on the city's highways.

Summer brings FanExpo

Spock and Bones from the new Star Trek movies are just some of the stars coming to @FanExpoCanada in #Toronto, August 22-25, 2013. Set autograph opportunities to high and meet Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban as they wow the crowds at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Fans of the original Star Trek television series can also meet Nichelle Nichols and George Takei.

The show features genres such as comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, gaming and sports so you can find vendors, guests and cosplay from all these groups. Featured guests include actors from The Walking Dead, Star Wars, Doctor Who and the Terminator along with list of many other celebrities.

Marching towards ComiCon 2013

FanExpo #Toronto ComiCon will feature the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Beam me up Scotty, oops I mean Geordi La Forge. Costumes and comics will be coming March 9-10 to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Tim Burton's Frankenweenie

The season of the undead rises in #Toronto with #Frankenweenie and @TOzombieWalk. I fear the reaper and the concession stand at the movies - oooooooohhhhh, the horror. Officially it goes spring, summer, fall, undead and then winter. The undead equinox falls on Halloween.

Victor's attic laboratory where he brings Sparky back to life

This is the Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition which was found at the 2012 FanExpo extravaganza. The displays features props, sets and puppets from the movie.

Frankenweenie is a story of a little boy named Victor's who brings his cherished dog Sparky brought back to life in black and white, stop motion 3D wackiness. I don't think there are too many normal thoughts running around in Tim's cranium! I mean do you remember his 2011 tiff exhibition?

Some zombies probably dying for the Zombie Walk

First out of the grave in 2012 is the release of Frankenweenie on October 5, followed by the Toronto Zombie Walk (photos from 2011) on October 20 and finishing with attack of the Halloween treats on October 31. You can find movies playing in Toronto at Toronto.com.

Gillian Anderson at @FanExpoCanada

X-Files star Gillian Anderson came to #Toronto during the final day of the 2012 FanExpo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. She signed autographs and met with fans in the great hall and later had a Question and Answer Session in Hall G. I checked the line up and I think there were several aliens in the actual lineup.

Today wrapped up the weekend's fun and cosplay at the massive show which is the FanExpo.

@FanExpoCanada: cosplay and comics

Fanboys and fangirls stream into the Metro #Toronto Convention Centre looking for love in all the right costumes. Thousands upon thousands join the pilgrimage to the colossal meeting halls full of action figures, accessories, artists, stars and of course comics. The costumes they bring span all manner of anime, television and gaming shows. These are photos from the Friday August 24 show.

FanExpo Sexy Cosplay 2012

@FanExpoCanada brings out plenty of people from #Toronto dressing up in cosplay - these are the beautiful ladies of the 2012 edition. All the ladies had the powers of superheroes and some came dressed that way as well. Wonder Woman was a popular choice. I have not seen any Star Wars Slave Leia bikini costumes yet. Photos from several other events, like Anime North, have been added to this collection.

FanExpo 2012: Stan Lee and Spiderman's 50th

The #Toronto @FanExpoCanada was opened by Lou Ferrigno while Stan Lee blew out candles on a cake to celebrate the Amazing Spiderman's 50th Anniversary. Plus there was cool cosplay. If you thought it wasn't going to be busy on a Thursday - think again. Fans quickly started filling the aisles as they passed by comics, action figures, movie promotions and tons of fans enjoying a weekend of cosply. Going later to Buskerfest I was surprised to see many of the attendees walking in Toronto still in their outfits.

Fans waited and the crowd grew to epic proportions as the smiling Stan Lee made his appearance at the Marvel Comics booth in the middle of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. He was there to celebrate the 50th milestone year of the Amazing Spiderman.
