Will Play Hockey For Food

You can have a friendly game of ball hockey as Five Hole For Food has set up hockey rinks in downtown #Toronto for the third season of Will Play Hockey For Food. Yonge-Dundas Square has two separate playing surfaces fenced off, complete with goal nets, so that people can drop off donations of food and get in the game in support of food banks. The games run from noon to 4pm and everyone is invited to bring a food donation (otherwise it is free), a stick and have fun.

100 percent of the donations go straight to food banks to help the hungry. This is the third season of the ball hockey games which appear across North America with 13 Canadian cities, coast-to-coast. The event was in Ottawa before coming to Toronto and will move to the Winnipeg on July 14, 2012. The organization hopes to collect 100,000 pounds of food for Canadians in Need.

“Our intention in 2011 was to collect 20,000 pounds of food and we ended up more than doubling our goal,” said FHFF founder Richard Loat, 23. “We’re upping the ante this year. While our target to bring in 100,000 pounds of food sounds ambitious, I’m confident Canadians will step up to help us help others”.
