Earth Hour 2012

That's the night the lights went out in #Toronto - some of the lights anyway, as the countdown started to throw the switch at 8:30pm on Saturday, March 31 in the Historic Distillery District. I didn't see the Mayor but at least the WWF Panda was there to help publicize the drive to reduce energy use during Earth Hour and beyond.

Some say that it is a bad idea to have this one hour each year. Some turn their lights off for that short period and pat themselves on the back and say they have done their part. But I think the Earth Hour helps to get energy reduction in the minds of many. Small differences over time can add up.
Composer Andrew Huang sang his song while volunteers distributed the lyrics and free flashlights to the crowd. Then Choir-Choir and the people watching broke into the first live performance of Team Earth Hour Anthem.

See more pictures after the jump.

The Earth Hour Anthem lyrics

When the lights go down
I want to be here with you
and the million candles that we light
when the lights go down
I want to dream something new
and let the stars come out tonight

Chorus
To treat the earth kind is our message
and we will never forget this
When every day we're left breathless
by the glow of the sun
The future is ours to own now
with every voice raised up so loud
with every hand in and lights out
It's time to unite as one

Chorus
Together we are stronger x4

Chorus x2
