150th running of the Queens Plate

Starting way back on June 27, 1860 Queen Victoria agreed to a Toronto horse race and offered the annual prize of a plate, thus Queen's Plate was born.

"Queen's Plate is the first jewel in Canada's Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and the longest continuously run stakes race in North America. It takes place every June and the first place purse is $1 million. The Plate is unquestionably Canada's most famous, one-day social and sporting event." From an excerpt of The Plate.

King George VI was the first reigning Monarch to actually watch the race and I think they all wore hats at the time - so I think if you go you have to have a beautiful hat and a beautiful lady at your side. The beautiful ladies pictured above, with beautiful hats, are from Woodbine and were in the Eaton Centre today promoting the race.

This important event happens Sunday June 21 at Woodbine Racetrack in the 9th race of the evening with a post time of 5:36PM. I was just at the races this past weekend and I didn't win a single bet so I won't tell you my favourites. Good luck to all.
