Several bells sound at the quarter hour while "Big Ben" the 5,446 kg bell rings out the time on the hours. The bells went silent in 2002 for restoration work on the building and had a major cleaning and rehabilitation and brought back into service in 2003.

Old City Hall Clock and Bells
The 110 year old mechanical clock that costs $50,000 a year to run could be replaced with an electric timepiece spinning the big arms and an electronic bell that will silence the large bells that sound on the hour and quarter hour. The City's request for proposal (RFP) will look at continuing to maintain the existing system or making the change to a modern installation.
