Rain floods TTC Union Station

The 30-40mm of rain expected from Friday to Saturday afternoon is impacting Toronto commuters with flooding in Union Station. The TTC announced on Friday, June 01, 2012 at 12:42pm that there is no service from Osgoode to Bloor Stations due to severe flooding at Union Station. Shuttle buses have been dispatched to bypass the affected sections of the subway. Streetcars on Spadina are turning back at the Spadina Loop due to the flooding. Emergency services are helping people exit the stations as the system is evacuated for safety.

Brad Ross from the TTC was giving interviews to the media on Front Street. He said that the sewer had backed up and flooded both Union Stations (GO and TTC) and into the PATH system. Around 4pm the crews were working on cleanup and system testing would follow. At 7pm the TTC would re-evaluate the situation to see if subway operations could continue tonite, beyond the rush hour shutdown.

Entrances to the underground PATH system in the areas have also been closed to pedestrian traffic. In early March 2012 contractors hit a watermain during construction and forced the closure of the subway.
