King & Queen Show

Coming up as part of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival is the King and Queen show where performers wearing elaborate and large costumes compete for special prizes in several categories. The July 28, 2016 show will be held at Lamport Stadium on King Street West from 5pm to 2am.

"Bandleaders provide the main cultural entertainment for this event, with male and female performers presenting the creative output of the talented artists, designers, and costume builders in the City of Toronto. The Ontario Science Center continues to award a special prize for the engineering, construction, design, and best environmental use of material in a costume. Interspersing the appearance of magnificent costumes weighing three to four times more than the bearer is entertainment with music and dance performance. Entertainment sponsor- Ontario Lottery Group."

Costumes so big they need wheels to let the dancers maneuver around and the material in one costume could easily supply a typical masquerader's feather and sequin costumes for an army of dancers. Speaking of MAS performers - here is look back at the costumes worn during the official launch of the 2016 Toronto Caribbean Carnival. For more pictures see my original post here.
