Toronto Bentway Park - art installations and events

 

It's always advisable to check out what is going on at Bentway Park, Toronto's park under the elevated Gardiner Expressway by Old Fort York, they almost always have art installations on display or some event planned. Right now there are a few pieces on display; Wind Ensemble (pictured above) and Holding Space (below) with descriptions found on the Bentway's website.

May 24 to October 6: Holding Space
"Nnenna Okore uses scaffolding, pipe, and Ankara – a versatile and iconic African fabric that embodies a deep sense of identity and community – to create a new space for human connection. Vibrant fabric hues weave around the Gardiner’s hard edges, softening the concrete infrastructure."

May 24 to October 6: Wind Ensemble
"Brightly coloured windsocks dance overhead while windchimes echo throughout, picking up the movement of the wind and the energy of the city. Toronto-based artist Heather Nicol invites you to add your voice to this chorus, to pause and connect to your surroundings and one another."

As for events they kick-off with a 2024 Opening Night Party on May 24. "Join us for a fabulous party to kick-off summer in the city! On May 24 2024, come mix, mingle, and dance under the Gardiner. The evening culminates with a massive collective performance led by local queer line dancing icons, SPURS. And, be the first to see The Bentway’s new public art exhibition Softer City." Tickets are required.

Then on June 8, 2024 you can experience the free to attend Toronto Art Crawl which takes over the Bentway for a day (11am to 6pm) of art, entertainment, food, market and much more.
