Canadian Pacing Derby

Exciting harness racing took place at @MohawkRacing during the recent end of summer 2015 barbecue event. The track is part of the Woodbine Entertainment Group with thoroughbred horse racing at Woodbine Racetrack and standardbred racing at Mohawk Racetrack, for extra action there are slot machines at both locations. If you don't go overboard on the betting, or you happen to win some coin, it is a relatively inexpensive way to spend a nice day. I have given up trying to analyse the handicap and results book, or Horseplayers Journal, and instead use a combination of racing odds and horse names to pick my ponies. I may soon have to progress to picking the horses based on the jockey's racing colours!
The night was extra special because with the 2015 Metro Pace and Canadian Pacing Derby we received free t-shirts and our first bet was on Mohawk. They have made a drive to go paperless which ended up being very confusing to us, mostly because I have no memory and would forget the bet as soon as I made it so I was unable to cheer for my horse in the race. So I had to remember to print out a copy of the bet each time - so much for paperless.

They could also use a few more betting machines as the lineups for the few machines they have can get pretty long - especially during special events. Although I ended up trying their free online betting system to save time, get notified if I won and really go paperless. I was really like shut up, take my money as fast as possible. If you gamble too much, you may have a problem - check out the Ontario Problem Gambling Hotline for help.
The next Mohawk event is the Canadian Trotting Classic and Maple Leaf Trot on Saturday, September 19, 2015.Racing continues until Tuesday, September 29 at Mohawk and Sunday, November 29 at Woodbine.
