The start of the race at 9:00 am
Arriving alone or in groups the Santa's started filling the downtown sidewalks and the crowd of red and white stroked their long beards and made ready for the beginning of the event. As the time was counted down from 1 minute the runners began to make ready their exodus from the start/finish line.

"This great family event will benefit Community Living Burlington and St. John Ambulance. All participants receive a Santa suit to be worn during the race. (Santa suits are mandatory and anyone not wearing the entire suit - including the beard - will be disqualified.) The Santa suits are lightweight and made for running and are available in sizes for men, women, and children. (Ladies and gentlemen if you are under 5’4” and 150 pounds order a children’s Santa suit. Santa suits are big.)"The runners were put through a series of warm ups to get them ready for the 5,000 metre race and a marching band provided an early musical interlude.
Some colourful OTF members were cheering all the St Nicks
The band rendered salutes during the National Anthem
Santa's filled the street for as far as you could see
Some Santas were worried about the upcoming big night of delivering presents
