Santa 5k Run Burlington 2013

Santa Claus has a number of assistants that help him deliver all the presents on Christmas Eve, and those assistants needed to let off a little steam so they gathered together for a little jog through the City of Burlington. Beginning early on a lovely Saturday, December 7 on Brant Street right beside City Hall, Canada's original, and largest, all-Santa race took place with only a few flakes of snow falling on the runners. The clear air and lack of fog meant that everyone's favourite reindeer, Rudolph, did not have to guide the runners that day.
The start of the race at 9:00 am

Arriving alone or in groups the Santa's started filling the downtown sidewalks and the crowd of red and white stroked their long beards and made ready for the beginning of the event. As the time was counted down from 1 minute the runners began to make ready their exodus from the start/finish line.

"This great family event will benefit Community Living Burlington and St. John Ambulance. All participants receive a Santa suit to be worn during the race. (Santa suits are mandatory and anyone not wearing the entire suit - including the beard - will be disqualified.) The Santa suits are lightweight and made for running and are available in sizes for men, women, and children. (Ladies and gentlemen if you are under 5’4” and 150 pounds order a children’s Santa suit. Santa suits are big.)"
The runners were put through a series of warm ups to get them ready for the 5,000 metre race and a marching band provided an early musical interlude.
