#Toronto Santa Speedo Run 2013

The Streakin' Speedsters braved the cold again during the chilly fundraiser for the Hospital for Sick Children Toys and Games fund . In 2005 the Santa Speedo Run started as "a whimsical idea conjured up in a fit of dementia" and after missing 2012 they managed to attract a large crowd of generous and brave runners in 2013 for the "chance to make a complete and utter spectacle of yourself" along the Bloor-Yorkville Mink Mile.
The upscale Yorkville neighbourhood had to share the road between Ferraris and Speedo wearing runners leaving Hemingway's Restaurant at 142 Cumberland Street at 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 14, 2013. "Giving Yorkville a very different kind of fashion show since 2005".

On the top floor of the restaurant the Santas got free Speedo bathing suits from Speedo Canada and enjoyed some liquid warmth with the thought of freezing their hineys off danced in their heads. After a round of cheers the group headed down to the road to pose for photographers and start their run.

"Registration/pre race festivities and optional carbo-loading to begin at noon, and the run will start promptly(ish) at 1:30 PM.
•Post-run celebrations and awards will be held immediately following the event at Hemingway’s.
•Running route and map t.b.c.; it’s always less than 3KM."
Getting ready in Hemingway's

In 2011 the weather was a little less blustery and the lack of snow made it a little easier to run through the roadways. 2013 was full of winter snow as a weekend storm was on its way to bring 15 cm of snow to the Toronto area. The weather outside was certainly frightful but the red Speedos were exceptionally delightful, so as the runners took off I thought I could hear them sing, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

A quick cheer....
and they're off!
