Jack Layton in happier times at Toronto City Hall

Tributes continue to pour in for Jack Layton who passed away after battling cancer. The leader of the NDP who brought his party a solid following and a large number of seats in the last federal election was born in 1950. The photo above show Jack Layton and Olivia Chow during happier times with the people of Toronto at City Hall.
The NDPs website has posted part of his final letter to Canadians:  "My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world."
Nathan Phillips Square has become a focal point for messages and tributes to the life and contributions of Jack to the people of Toronto. I include some of the chalk messages and gifts that fill the grey concrete square.

BlogTO also has photos of some of the tributes happening around Toronto.
