Toronto Global Marijuana March 2018

GMM turns 20 on the eve of legalization of mj in Canada and the protest still takes place in the back yard of Ontario's legislature building. Half of the north park is under construction and the other half is full of vendors and protesters perusing the wares for sale and enjoying the beautiful spring day. The tents and awnings began to fill the central paths and food trucks lined one section of path. Don't drink too much because there are no bathrooms or porta-pottys on site.
Starting setup late in the morning, the gathering was to start at High Noon and the march is scheduled to leave the park at 2pm - rain or shine on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Ours is one of over 500 marches around the world, they say that Toronto's will be the largest in North America. I had to leave early so these photos are before the inevitable purple haze fills the woods. Toronto police remain ready to escort the march through the streets north up to Bloor Street, east to Yonge Street and west on Wellesley Avenue back to the park.

From the GMM website "At 2PM GMM will be lead by Jodie Emery, taking off north of Queen’s Park travelling to Bloor, East to Yonge, south to Wellesley returning to Queen’s Park for the RISE UP Ontario Rally at Queens Park South at 4pm. “The Global Marijuana March is an international day of cannabis celebration and protest against prohibition. Canada still hasn’t yet legalized cannabis, and more delays simply mean more ongoing injustice,” emphasized Jodie Emery."

"The provincial election is June 7th and GMM organizer HERB KUSHMAN says “we need to show the Ontario government in their own backyard what we think legalization should look like. VOTE TO TOKE ONTARIO!”."
