Psychedelic tunnel and the Don Valley Trail

The Corktown Common underpass brings the Lower Don River Trail into Toronto's Canary District and it is very hard to miss. Bright red, yellow and white stand in contrast to the black bars, both inside and outside the structure rival the Don Valley Parkway rainbow tunnel.

Photo Vault - Sights around Toronto

Toronto's skyline from across the bay as the sunsets over the city. Of course we now know that the CN Tower is no longer top dog in tall structures as the Dubai Tower, named Burj Dubai, takes over top spot.

The urban park at Yonge-Dundas has a great feature - a parallel line of fountain sprinklers that have jets of water that are fun to play in on a hot summer day.

During the long conversion of the Don Valley Brickyards from it's crumbling industrial decay to an urban park, the interior of the brick factory was a smorgasbord of graffiti and building waste that was exciting to explore on a sunny day. The sun would poke through the holes in the ceiling and bright beams would light up the gloomy, dank structure. The photos above were taken in January of 2006. Now called Evergreen Brick Works the site also includes a Farmers Market.

The TD Canada Trust Tower pokes into the sky in the downtown core, it's sign almost obscured by the steam rising in the cold of December, 2005.

Don Valley Brick Works

The once abandoned brick factory located in the Don Valley continues to evolve. I understand some of the buildings have been taken down - I will have to go out there soon to see what is happening. It was a fantastic place to explore with sunbeams poking through the holes in the building, with bricks scattered and ovens empty and graffiti colouring the walls.

Tobogganing by the Don River

The past weekend was a sunny, cool day - just perfect for doing some tobogganing in Riverdale Park in Toronto. This steep slope of the hill along the Don valley make for exciting downhill runs on magic carpets.

This valley is busy with parks on either side of the valley and the Don Valley Parkway, a railway and a roadway running through it. The river has a little ice cover but there was plenty of water for the ducks and geese to play and trails for dogs to run.
