The White Ribbon Campaign works to end violence against women and it originated in 1991 with a group of #Toronto men that decided to speak out about their opposition to the violence. "Wearing a white ribbon would be a symbol of men's opposition to violence against women." Volunteers were in Union Station this week passing out free white ribbons and WRC pamphlets to help spread the word.
The campaign continues now in over sixty countries and works to challenge, educate, raise public awareness, work in partnership with others and support White Ribbon Campaigns (WRC) around the world. They also use the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes to raise funds for the WRC and their motto is "Get Pumped."
It is especially appropriate to support the WRC as the December 6th anniversary of the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique Massacre in Montreal has just passed.
