The streets are alive with the sound of music! Forty one pianos have been placed at various outdoor locations around Toronto as part of the “Play Me, I’m Yours” musical artwork installation by Luke Jerram. The concept was brought to life in 2008 and has appeared in cities around the world. This installation is in celebration of the three year countdown to the Pan Am / Parapan Am Games coming to the GTA in 2015. 41 is the number of countries that will be participating in the games.
The 41 pianos were painted by separate artists representing the 41 countries and the one I found at City Hall at the entrance to Nathan Phillips Square was very colourful and had signs on it that said “Play Me, I’m Yours.” And someone was playing it. The pianos are at such locations as Trinity Bellwoods, Toronto Music Garden, St Lawrence Market and Union Station.
