Honda Indy #Toronto 2012: Ferrari Challenge and Party

The @FerrariRaces ultimate sports car race series brought some glamour to the @HondaIndy with the sleek and powerful Ferrari vehicles - production series, factory sealed engines, as the Free Friday June 6 day included practice and a qualifying sessions. The cars flash around the Streets of Toronto race course in exhibition stadium and it doesn't take long before the brakes start to glow a bright red even in daylight. "With the 458 Challenge, the mid-rear V8 berlinetta derived from the 458 Italia and fifth model used by Ferrari in its single-series racing programme, Ferrari puts an exceptional combination of extreme performance, superb fun behind the wheel and unique driving emotions at the finger-tips of its sporting, professional and gentleman-driver clients."

18 Ferrari drivers are entered in the Toronto leg of the Ferrari Challenge series from Ferrari of Ft Lauderdale, Ferrari of Central Florida Racing, Ferrari of Tampa Bay Racing, Ferrari of Ontario, Ferrari of Beverly Hills, Ferrari of Houston, Ferrari of San Diego and Ferrari of Brasil.

The Ferrari Challenge provided a chance for Toronto Grand Prix Tourist readers to win tickets for a Ferrari Fan Zone experience, as well as an invitation for me to visit the Ferrari cocktail party on the first night of the Honda Indy. The swanky affair was held at the Gardiner Museum on Queen's Park. Multiple Ferrari cars were displayed and a red carpet led into the building. Lines of valets waited to park some pretty expensive machinery brought to the party by many of the guests. We pulled up to the party behind a red Ferrari in our little blue car and let the valets work their parking magic, it was one of the funniest parts of the night for me.
One of Canada's best known racers is none other than Ferrari Challenge driver Robert Herjavec of the 007 car. Also entrepreneur and celebrity star of television programs like Dragons' Den and Shark Tank - plus very friendly, shown above with his wife Diane. Robert was just announced as the Grand Marshal of the 2012 edition of the Honda Indy Toronto.

Chow Bella, greetings on the red carpet

I think there was a Ferrari on every surface that could fit one, there was even a racecar on the roof

"Maranello, 8 July – The curtain has come down on this weekend’s fifth round of the North American Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. Seventeen Ferrari 458s took to the track for a double round of races, run as every year on the same card as the Indy Car Series Honda Indy Toronto race, on the eponymous street circuit. Victory in both legs of the Trofeo Pirelli went to Onofrio Triarsi of Ferrari of Central Florida. In the Coppa Shell category, Race 1 saw Damon Ockey emerge victorious for Ferrari of Ontario, with Frank Fusillo of Ferrari of Fort Lauderday winning Race 2.

The 458 Challenge cars of the Stars and Stripes series will be back in action over the weekend of 22 July, when the sixth round takes place at Lime Rock Park, Lakeville, Connecticut."
