May two four: Victoria Day Weekend

The weekend so famous it is named for Canada's traditional beer containment system, a cardboard case of 24 beer and so we have the two-four long weekend! It might also have had something to do with Queen Victoria's birthday on May 24, 1819, but my memory is hazy on that matter. The holiday occurs on the first Monday before May 25, in 2012 that means the actual holiday is Monday May 21. More importantly for us it is a weekend in late spring known for fireworks, patios, cottages and just having fun.

For those not heading north it is time to stay in the Big Smoke and check out the whatever celebrations you can find, or that you can make yourself.

Toronto International Circus Festival Saturday - Monday, May 19 - 21.
Fireworks at Canada's Wonderland Sunday, May 20.
Free Fireworks and Family Fun Day at Mohawk Raceway Sunday, May 20.
Victoria Day at Historic Fort York Monday, May 21.
Victoria Day Fireworks at Ashbridges Bay in the Beaches Monday, May 21.
For race fans there is the Victoria Day Speedfest at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport) Friday - Sunday, May 18-20. Includes the launch of the 2012 season of the Nascar Canadian Tire Series with the Vortex Brake Pads 200 race.
