Ripley's Aquarium at the CN Tower - under construction

April 7, 2012 photos - I can almost see the deep end

Now back to the original post.
Toronto will soon have what a lot of people have in their houses - an aquarium. The groundbreaking began August 17, 2011 at the base of the CN Tower and the aquarium is planned to open in mid 2013. The aquarium is owned by Ripley's Entertainment Inc. (Ripley's Believe It or Not) and is also funded by quite a bit of public money. They have two other aquariums, one in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and one at Mrytle Beach, South Carolina.
The total cost is pegged at over $100 million dollars and will hold 1.5 million gallons of water. One of the features that I really like is the moving walkway through an acrylic tunnel below the shark lagoon (we went in an aquarium walkway at San Francisco). You can see some pictures of the proposal at the Ripley's website http://www.ripleysnewsroom.com/rac/ - believe it or not!
